3 DIY Beauty Projects with Geranium Essential Oil

Previously in our Geranium series, we talked about the amazing skin benefits of Geranium essential oil. It is such a versatile oil, it can be used as an anti-inflammatory so is great for acne prone, as well as hormonal and sensitive skin when used sparingly. It is also a great oil for more mature skin types. So without further ado here are three do-it-yourself recipes that are simple, smell gorgeous and help beautify your skin!

Geranium Oil Cleanser

This cleanser will help calm the skin, balance oil production (great for acne sufferers) and deep cleanse without feeling dry and taught.

Simply mix 10 drops of Geranium essential oil in 50 ml of Sunflower oil. To add more cleansing substitute 10-25 ml of the sunflower oil with castor oil. To use, massage your face from chin to forehead in small circular movements. With a hot cloth or towel remove the oil. Finish by splashing your face with cold water to help close pores.

Shea, Orange and Geranium Skin Hydrator

Geranium is great for dry and dehydrated skin. Add the super-moisturising properties and you have a simple but effective natural moisturiser. Combine 3 drops of Geranium and 2 drops of Sweet Orange (distilled) essential oil to a heaped tablespoon of melted Shea butter. Allow to cool. Use as a night time moisturiser or as an ‘everything butter’ – hands, nails, dry patches or anything else you can think of!

Hot Oil Hair Treatment
Lastly, Geranium can bring life back to dull hair and with the aid of coconut oil, nourish the scalp. Simply mix 5 drops of essential oil with 1 tablespoon of warm melted coconut oil. While warm, massage onto scalp and hair, making sure you reach the ends. Wrap in a hot towel and leave for 10-20 minutes. Wash and condition as normal.  I have dry hair so I prefer to co-wash with my favourite conditioner.  Your hair will be moisturised and the antibacterial nature of the geranium and the coconut oil will help keep your scalp healthy.

You can buy all of the vegetable oils from your local supermarket and your essential oils online or from your local health food shop.
