How and why I formulated The Daily Rejuvenator

How did this moisuriser come about, you may ask?

I spent a lot of time and grey matter thinking about how I would formulate this. M Botanicals is minimaist – meaning we use the right amount of ingredients to give the desired results – its not simply about using the fewest ingredients.  Its about combining the right ingredients in such a way to be synergistic – be more than the sum of their parts.

It is also  about simplifying your beauty routine. I mean who has time to apply 5 layers of product on after cleansing three times and toning?   Not me, and as I used myself, a woman in her early 40’s, as the ideal customer for this product, I wanted it to be a multifunctional product that would not add more complication to my beauty routine.

As a busy mum with a business I just like to wash my face and moisurise and then sometimes put on a sunscreen. It is a simple routine that fits in with my life. That being the case this moisturiser had to be all singing and dancing.

I wanted something that had key ingredients that would support skin health, fight free radical damage and would be good for dry and mature skin types,  WITHOUT the need for lots of different products.

As a result it has taken me a while to think, research and make numerous  prototypes.

Obviously I love botanicals so essentially it is a base of oils, butters with the wonderful powers of essential oils and extracts BUT for mature skin a little more research was needed and I wanted to add that little bit extra focussing on the common problems faced in skin as we age.

I mean, at any age we want to look our best – we don’t want to look tired and we do not want dull skin.   Who wants to age before their time?

So what does The Daily Rejuvenator contain?

Water – No it is not a filler, but the building block of life as we know it! Yes it is in abundance but it is essential for humans and all other organisms on the earth. In a moisturiser it also means that we have a lighter product and also a great base for delivering  wonderful botanical ingredients

What are these botanicals ingredients?

Lipids – Having the right amount of oils is fundamental.  I didn’t want it to be heavy, so I chose oils that are high in essential fatty acids.  Prickly pear and Watermelon seed oils are very light feeling oils, so they won’t clog up your pores.  Pumpkin seed oil, is great for mature skin types and is rich in vitamin C.

Water loving ingredients – as a formulator I have many different humectants to chose from. But I wanted the best in this cream so I opted for hyaluronic acid which is far superior to the rest, with its ability to hold 1000 times its own weight in water, it will help draw moisture to the top layers of your skin ! Who doesn’t want hydrated skin?!

Powerful essential oil blends – I chose to use three essential oils – Rose, Frankincense and Myrrh, that not only have aroma-therapeutic properties that beautify and protect the skin, but smell good too.

Now, I could have stopped there and had a wonderful product but what would have made this stand out from the rest of the natural brands out there?

High end actives would work a treat I thought! So I researched for ingredients derived or found in nature that would help tone,  firm, clarify  and ward against the ravages of day to day living. These are the special things……

The special things

Powerful anti-oxidants – Vitamin E acetate will help the skins natural mechanisms to protect against sun rays and CoQ10 will fight against free radical damage – both major causes of premature ageing.  These beauties make it an anti-pollution force to be reckoned with!

Niacinamide – Did you know that niacinamide is probably one of the only clinically proven actives to even out discolouration as well as be an amazing treat for people with prone to acne? It also gently exfoliates so contributes to skin renewal!

Peptides –  I put in a hefty amount of Syn®-Coll .  Peptides are proteins made from short and long chain amino acids…now that means nothing to you but your skin will love it as peptides help  with collagen syntheses,  warding away wrinkles and keeping it strong and healthy.

So all in all I love this product. I have been using it from the moment I formulated it.   I get up in the morning and wash my face with the  Gentle Enzyme Cleansing Clay whilst in the shower. This leaves my skin smooth and ready to soak in  all the good ingredients in The Daily Rejuvenator.  My skin always feels soft and immediately after using it.  My skin is glowing and the scent uplifts me. It is simply exquisite, if I don’t mind saying so myself!
